I feel very lucky to have this magic month with Claire. Nearly every day I get to play on swings and go down all the slides with her at different parks. Out in the garden, we look at honeybees, pick and immediately eat cherry tomatoes, and water the plants along with ourselves. Inside the house, we wear our capes and play chase, color pictures, and read lots of books. I love finding Claire’s creations, like the above scene with her friends.
What a kind and happy person she is.
My September couldn’t be better. We have our oldest son Carlos, his wife Casey, and their daughter Claire staying with us. The big C’s will leave after ten days, and Claire will hang out with , Grandma Beth aka GiGi and Grandpa Raoul/PopPop for a month. Seeing the world through a two-year old’s eyes is absolutely the best!
We had a super fun long holiday weekend in Austin visiting our oldest son Carlos, his wife Casey, and their daughter Claire.
We tried on cowboy boots at Allen’s Boots.
What a paradise!
There is terrific live music everywhere.
This gorgeous live wall was in the flagship Whole Foods Store. I learned that it began in Austin.
Even their parking strips, fondly referred to as hellstrips in our parts, were stylish.
Here’s some repurposed fun for Grandpa Raoul and Claire, a ride in a choo choo of oil can cars.
A handsome bench outside of Salt Lick Barbeque, where we had a darn tasty meal.
And here’s the star attraction of this visit, our granddaughter Claire.
My 59th birthday was my kind of perfect day. Raoul and I started at the University District Farmers Market.
So many great local foods are available right now.
Another great sign.
Next stop – Snohomish Co-op Farm Supply to look at their stock tanks, giant galvanized tubs for our raised vegetable garden beds. Now some birthday girls might want to visit a spa. I love a good feed store. We even made some time to say hi to all the baby chicks and ducks.
I was long overdue to visit Timi and her great shop – Ruffles and Rust Square, also located in Snohomish. Both were in fine form. Raoul always enjoys visiting with Timi’s husband Jay. You can catch glimpses of them through this splendid display.
Fabulousness from My Sweet Savannah.
Such a splendid lampshade.
Our grandpuppy is a pug, so of course, this picture captured my heart.
We finished the day at an art show our friend Dawn was having in the Columbia City neighborhood in Seattle. Please pop into the Chelsea Deli if you find yourself that way.
I couldn’t have asked for a nicer way to start my 59th year.
The meal planning is done. Raoul and I have been to Costco and Top Foods. Trader Joes’s is still to happen. First up this morning – Chocolate Cherry Bars and Meatloaf with Chili Sauce. A run to the airport to get our son Morgan and daughter-in-law Eileen, and the festivities (and eating) will begin!
