I Love Change

October 29, 2010

Raoul and I are crazy happy to be moving into our new green-built home on Monday, November 1!  I am so grateful for this opportunity.  It’s a do-over of sorts.  We get this blank slate to fill with only the things we love, and serve us well at this point in our lives.  As much as I love this home and garden already, I don’t want to invest so much time anymore in physical stuff.  We both want more time for traveling and being with family and friends that matter to us.

Here’s the other side of our great room.  The floors are polished aggregate concrete.

My future studio.

I’ll try to stay in touch during the next week, but as you can imagine, moving is a hectic process.  And for me, it’s helping me grow and thrive.

Best Teaching Day of My Life

October 27, 2010

Good golly – I had the most fun ever – teaching at the recent Ruffles & Rust show!  Here is my Relics and Ribbons Necklace group.

My good friend, Julie Sotomura, of PhotoMura was helping me with the class and taking all of these terrific shots.

There were vintage French ribbons I found recently while shopping the brocantes in Provence.

I wish I had bought the other four spools of this amazing French silk cord.  The spool is gigantic.

Everyone shared with each other.

Plenty of laughs filled the day.

And then the masterpieces were worn.  Here is Christine.

Melinda and her beautiful necklaces.

Roxanne and Gail.  Can you believe this was their first jewelry class?  Talk about fast learners!

Next up was the Baubles and Bling Bracelet.  Here is one underway.  I really like this shot Julie captured!

Carol sporting her finished bracelet.

Cathy displaying hers.

Julie took many more dandy photos of the classes, and you can see them here.

And a gigantic thank you to Timi and her entire crew for their help in creating the best teaching day of my life!

My New Green Roof

October 25, 2010

Here’s a sneak peek of our new home’s green garage roof.  It is planted with sedums.  When they are in bloom, it positively glows!  The moving truck shows up November 1.  Even after all the downsizing we’ve done, there is still a whole bunch to get packed between now and then.  It’s crazy how much I am enjoying this process.

The jewelry classes I taught at Ruffles and Rust this last weekend were splendid!  I’ll have more about all that fun, and oodles of pictures soon.

Relics and Ribbons Necklace Class

October 21, 2010

Here is my new and improved sample of the Relics and Ribbons Necklace I’ll be teaching at Ruffles and Rust on Saturday, Oct. 23.  On our September Vintage Buying Tour of Provence, I found enough vintage French skeleton keys for all the kits, plus religious medals, buttons, ribbons and some stunning silver, silk cording.  Each class kit will include all of the above components, with some variations.  I have tried my best to have rhinestone button equality!

There are still a few spots left in this class, which runs from 10 a.m. – noon, costs $65, and includes your admission to all of Saturday’s show.  To find out more about this marvelous event, produced by the talented Timi of Come Junk With Us, and how to register, click here.

Baubles and Bling Bracelet

October 20, 2010

This is the final version of the Baubles and Bling Bracelet I’ll be teaching at Ruffles & Rust on Saturday, Oct. 23.  Each kit will contain everything you see in the picture.  Of course, you can create all sorts of variations depending on the combos you prefer.  Plus there will be French ribbons, hand-dyed laces and vintage metallic fibers to add, if you wish.  There are still a few spots left in this class, which is 2 – 4 p.m..  The cost is $45, which includes your admission to all of Saturday’s show, produced by Timi of Come Junk With Us.  To register, click here.  We plan to have some big fun!

Rit Dye & Tea & Lace

October 15, 2010

I’ve been busy getting my supplies ready for the two jewelry classes I am teaching at Ruffles and Rust on Oct. 23.  One morning this week, I hand-dyed these laces for the Relics and Ribbon Necklace kits.  One  package of Rit Dye (pearl grey) resulted in all these gorgeous hues.

I used a teaspoon of dye in the quart of hot water.  I was pretty proud of myself for thinking about how to make clean-up easy by doing my dipping in the sink.

Then it was on to create cream colored laces.  A bunch of stale teabags in this big glass measuring cup did the trick.

Again, so many pretty variations resulted.

The laces will also be optional components of the Baubles and Bling bracelet class.  There are still a few spaces left in both classes.  Please visit Come Junk With Us for all the details on how to register, shop the show and have a fabulous time!

Once Upon A Time

October 13, 2010

I’m pleased to announce I will be speaking at the 2011 Northwest Flower and Garden Show on Feb. 27 on Salvage Garden Style.  The theme of this year’s show is Once Upon a Time – Spectacular Gardens with Stories to Tell.  We are so fortunate to have one of the largest flower and garden shows in the U.S.  right in our own backyard.  Please visit their website to see the details for my seminar, plus useful information about everything this wonderful show has to offer.

Another entertaining feature is the show’s new blog, which shares helpful gardening info, highlights about the seminar speakers and even tasty recipes.

Good Garage Fullness

October 11, 2010

Here’s what we did this last weekend – we started packing for our upcoming move.  And it was really fun!  I’ve always dreaded the moving process before.  This time, Raoul and I are so looking forward to moving into our new home that fits us.  Downsizing makes me happy!  The moving truck shows up in just a few weeks.  We can’t wait.

Ruffles & Rust Class Kits

October 8, 2010

I’ve been having fun assembling the class kits for the upcoming fabulous Ruffles & Rust show on Oct. 22 and 23.  The muffin tins are brimming with loot for the Baubles and Bling bracelet class, which is scheduled for Saturday, the 23rd, from 2 – 4 p.m.

Here’s a sample of what we’re going to create.

Rayon seam binding has been drying in all sorts of crinkly shapes on my kitchen window sill for the Relics and Ribbons necklace workshop set for 10 a.m. – noon that day.

Here’s a picture of the necklace we’ll be making.

Your class kits will include everything you need.  Plus it will even be better than the sample in this picture because I brought back French skeleton keys for all the necklaces!

There are some spots left in both classes.  To find out more and how to register, go to this link.

Your class fee even includes your admission to Saturday’s show, which promises to be spectacular!
